Description

The Help ‘Em Up Harness is a unique full-body lifting device that assists owners with aging dogs remain active when arthritis, hip dysplasia, muscle loss, or surgical repair impairs a pet’s mobility and physical strength for every day functions – from getting up off the floor, up and down the stairs, or in and out of cars.

By placing a handle over the hips, and the shoulders, the Help ‘Em Up safely lifts from underneath the torso allowing you to help your dog get up, along with overcoming the daily obstacles of aging and getting around.

It will also help you lift without stress by using the handles on the harness, as the Help ‘Em Up is designed to distribute weight over the large surfaces of the chest and hind quarters. Veterinarians, surgeons, nurses and rehab therapists find this product as a useful aid to help their patients be lifted more comfortably post-surgery and to help them rehabilitate more easily.

Choosing the Right Help ‘Em Up Harness

The Help ‘Em Up Harness comes in five sizes: X-Small, Small, Medium, Large and X-Large and can fit dogs from 4-100kg

Determining the proper size of our harness is based primarily on the weight of your dog. We look more closely at a dog’s dimensions (neck, chest and waist measurements) if a dog is on the cusp of two different sizes. In most cases, we would recommend to size down.

Here are the most relevant factors to consider.

  1. Total weight
First and foremost, knowing your dogs total weight will help you determine what size harness you need. Go by the weight of your dog.
  2. Range within a size.
Our harness is fully adjustable. You can adjust to meet the unique characteristics of your dog’s dimensions. Each harness has a broad range within its size definition. Meaning – you can adjust the chest to a deep chest or a shallow one, a narrow waist to a plump waist, our harnesses have range! If your dog is on the cusp of two different sizes, we recommend sizing down. Ask for help if you are unsure.
  3. Consider their age or their condition.
Once a dog reaches a certain age (it’s different for all) they tend to stop adding on weight. So it’s best not to apply the “they’ll grow into it” method. If your dog is losing weight, project ahead. If your dog is recovering from any number of issues, surgery, injury etc… they might be up a few pounds. Once again the harness has added length to straps to accommodate changes.
  4. Mixing sizes.
We get asked this a lot and its really why we have the broad range within each size. Occasionally, and with certain breeds it becomes necessary to “mix and match”. We sell separate fronts and backs on our accessory page and all sizes will connect easily front to back as separates. This comes in handy if your dog has atrophied in it’s hind quarters. You may need a large front and smaller rear Hip Lift. But remember, we go by the weight of the dog primarily to choose the correct size. Call if you are unsure.
  5. Selecting the correct Hip Lift.
As a last note on sizing, we make 2 different styles of the rear Hip Lift: the Conventional or the “U” Band. All females and 80% of males will wear the Conventional version but those males whose penis sits further back, between their hind legs or just even with the front of the hind legs will use the “U” Band style. We go into greater detail on selection on our Choosing the Correct Hip Lift page.
  6. “Out of the Bag”
Right out of the bag all of our harnesses come fully assembled, meaning the front and rear Hip Lift are connected. Please note how it is assembled before taking it apart. It has 11 separate adjustments and 9 separate connector clips. Try it on your pup first as it is and then make adjustments.
